The Wait is Over: "A New Day for Little Bear" is Finally Here!

At WayMaker, we believe in the power of stories to heal, especially when it comes to helping children and families navigate life’s most difficult moments. Today, we are beyond excited to finally share a secret project that has been close to our hearts for a long time: our animated short film, "A New Day for Little Bear."

A Special Film for a Special Purpose

Crafted with care and guided by years of experience in play therapy, "A New Day for Little Bear" is a heartfelt journey of loss, hope, and healing. We wanted to create something that would resonate with children, offering a gentle way to explore emotions surrounding grief. Through Little Bear’s story—where he loses his beloved stars and discovers the beauty of a new sunrise—children can begin to understand that while loss can be painful, there is always the possibility of light and renewal.

Why This Matters

This project has been a true labor of love. As therapists, parents, and caregivers, we know how important it is to provide children with tools to process their emotions in a safe and comforting way. That’s why we created this film. It offers a soothing narrative that not only engages young minds but also opens up conversations within families about grief, healing, and hope.

Coming Soon to Cinemagic

We’re thrilled to announce that "A New Day for Little Bear" will make its big-screen debut as part of the prestigious Cinemagic Film Festival. It will be screened at Queen's Film Theatre on Saturday 28th September 2024, competing in the festival’s official Audience Award for Best Short Film for a Children’s Audience. This film is for children and will be judged by children, making it even more meaningful to us.

A Moment of Healing

One of the beautiful things about this project is hearing how it has already begun to touch lives. One mother shared: “In our experience of loss, my kids and I found comfort in watching Little Bear and his story. It offered us a moment to sit with our emotions, ask questions, and feel hope for what lies ahead.”

What’s Next?

We can't wait to share this special project with more families and help children like Little Bear discover their own paths toward healing. Stay tuned for more updates on how you can watch "A New Day for Little Bear."
